Sometimes fate brings you together, and other times it watches as others’ plans begin the love story. For Veronica and Walter an invitation to a friend’s house would be the start of their lives together. Their friends knew that these two souls had to come together.
When Walter saw Veronica, he was instantly attracted to her smile. He soon saw that she was affectionate, caring, and, most importantly, supportive. Veronica thought he was the sweetest guy and soon learned he was caring, protective, and loyal.
Years have passed since their mutual friends set them up. As was expected, they fell in love and got married. Walter became a father to Veronica’s two kids, who had lost theirs, and since he wanted a big family, they added two more. Just as their family has grown, so has their love. “He makes me happy simply by being there for me. He makes me laugh. He supports me through everything and makes me feel loved and protected. I love his heart, his loyalty, and the way he cares for our family and me. He’s my best friend and my partner. I love that after all these years, he’s still the person I want to be beside me. I love the life we have built together and everything we still have ahead of us.”
Walter knew early on he had found a woman with a very huge heart. He proposed again on their 19th anniversary because he wanted to walk down the aisle with her on their 20th. “I love the way she brings the family close and makes us all laugh and enjoy our time together; she’s the glue that bonds us together, and I also love that she includes my parents on some occasions and makes them feel special.”
Soon, once again, Veronica and Walter will renew their vows with their family beside them as fate looks on and smiles.

The white blanket was held down with four rose arrangements. Petals were a walkway to it. J finished putting up 15 signs that marked milestones in their relationship. The first was when they met, and others included the first kiss and getting a key, but the last one said, “Will you marry me?” J had worked so hard to surprise L. With help from both their families and her best friend, they came up with a perfect ruse. L believed they were celebrating her parents’ anniversary and taking family pictures before dinner at a park.
I played the photographer who wasn’t sure where to shoot them. So when L and her family arrived, I met them in the parking lot and said I needed someone to make sure the spot would work. Everyone volunteered L to go with me. We walked and suddenly J stepped out. L smiled when she saw him and even joked, “This is a great practice for when you propose.” J smiled and said, “This isn’t a practice. It’s real.” He then walked her and they stopped at every sign, remembering all the happy moments they had shared.
He stopped at the last sign and then took L to the perfect spot he had chosen to ask her to marry him. There was a lake behind them, and a tree was beside them. J fell to one knee and asked L to say yes to being his wife. L, of course, said yes, and strangers in the park watching started clapping. Suddenly, they were surrounded by family celebrating a new milestone. J and L were engaged.

Liz was outside the casino’s employee entrance, waiting for the tram, when Rudy bumped into her. His first words to her were, “Watch where you are going!” He then laughed and walked away. Liz was infuriated. But she did recognize him. “He was always the loudest and funniest one in any room, and I remember laughing at his jokes during pre-shift meetings. He was the guy who tried to make everyone laugh all the time. He was also the thinker, the guy who asked the tough questions when management introduced new rules and procedures. He spoke up for the little guy. He was the one who would invite new hires over to our big table during lunch if they were sitting alone.”
Rudy did look back and noticed that the girl with pretty curly hair had an annoyed look on her face. His worry would end the following day when Liz pretended to dodge him, avoiding being knocked into him as a joke. She even mocked him with, “Watch where you are going!” Rudy laughed and took that moment to invite Liz to an after-work hangout spot- a local 24-hour bowling alley on a Tuesday.
When Rudy arrived, Liz was already there. He was immediately drawn to her cute curly hair and contagious smile. He rescued her from the guys talking to her. Liz found the slight possessiveness super attractive, and they hung out for the rest of the evening. At the end of the night, Rudy, as always, made sure everyone could get home safely. And Liz now found herself worried about the guy who took care of everyone else. So she hung back. Rudy had said, “Goodnight,” to the last person and turned around to see Liz waiting for him next to a Jurassic Park Arcade Game. “I found myself wanting to look out for him. I wanted to make sure HE was good, you know? The guy that thought of others.” They played the game, sobered up, and Liz went home.
They, of course, talked more after that, and the flirty texts got even more flirty. Their first date would be at the movies. Liz bought the tickets, and Rudy bought the popcorn. The movie was honestly not good, but the coffee afterward was. They talked for a long time and found that they had so much in common. They shared similar interests, outlooks, priorities, values, and morals. “I learned that he deeply loved and cared for his mother. I think that when I decided I really liked him.”
Liz liked him, but she was shy. So at the end of the night, when Rudy tried to kiss her, she ran off. Rudy was confused and deflated, but their first kiss would come on their second date.
Fast forward 8 years. They shared a home, bank accounts, and lots of love. Rudy saw a woman who was not only beautiful but also faithful and wonderful. Liz had a man who was funny, smart, and caring. It would be at one of their favorite places where Rudy would propose: Disneyland on Sweethearts Night. He, of course, had thrown Liz off by gaslighting her with reasons that marriage was a bad idea.
But the truth was that Rudy knew that Liz was who he wanted to marry. “I can honestly speak about Liz forever without ever getting bored; she is the most amazing, kind, and caring person I’ve ever met. It blows my mind to think that some regular guy like me is going to marry her. It almost feels like a John Hughes movie, where the nice guys get a happy ending. My only regret is making this remarkable person wait almost 10 years for her special day.”
There in front of Snow White’s Wishing Well as they posed for a picture, Rudy dropped to his knee and proposed. Liz said yes to the man who had knocked into her and told her to watch where she was going. She watched. She went. And ended up right by his side.

Jonathan was interviewing for a job at Little Caesars when Elyssa saw him. She knew. What others would consider crazy girl talk, Elyssa knew was true. She told her coworkers that she would marry him. The boy with kindness in his eyes had “Zinged” her. Perhaps she had recognized him from another moment in time. So many magical and enchanting explanations, or perhaps Destiny and Fate had whispered in her ear, and the guy that she had fallen in love with at first sight would get the job and ultimately her love.
Jonathan had no clue that Elyssa was even flirting with him. He didn’t. Until she stopped, and suddenly what was taken away was needed. Now it was he who pursued.
Their first date would be in a car because of the pandemic. They would speak for 6 hours about anything and everything. 4 AM would find them still together.
Jonathan was spellbound. Elyssa was gorgeous, honest, knowledgeable, and creative. She was the one. The queen who ruled his heart. “We always said to each other that we were born in the wrong era because the way I carry her in my heart is like royalty.” Elyssa had noticed his eyes the first day she saw him, but his kindness was more than a simple look. He is such a kind, gentle, and most helpful person I’ve ever met. He brings me flowers every pay week like clockwork.
The ring Jonathan would choose for her would have to match their love. “The love and passion that we have for each other is like no other.” The ruby symbolizes deep love and passion. And so, on their 5th Anniversary at the Palace of the Arts in San Francisco, Elyssa received her ring… a ruby, the birthstone of the man she loved since the moment she saw him.
And because their wedding is on Halloween…..
