Cal State University Los Angeles: Graduation Session: Karina

May 10, 2026

Karina was a SPED student. She processed information more slowly. Students with slow processing speeds need more time to receive, understand, and respond to information, which can affect academic performance and does not reflect intelligence. Yet, at an IEP meeting during her 8th-grade year, Karina was told that she would never graduate from high school, attend college, or live on her own. She proved them wrong. She graduated from high school with honors, attended Mt. SAC, and transferred to Cal State University, Los Angeles. All through it, she worked at Starbucks, bought her own car and even lived on her by 21.

“I would tell Special Ed Students that, ‘Never give up. Yes, you learn differently, but that doesn’t mean you are not smart. Never let someone tell you that you can’t do this, or go to school, or get a job, because of your disability. It is not true. No matter where you come from, or what you have, it doesn’t define you. You are your own person. Own it.”

Cal Poly Pomona Grad Session: Samuel and Josheleen

Samuel is graduating from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Engineering. He is a curious, dedicated young man with a magnetic personality that brings everyone together. Josheleen, known as “Yashi,” his girlfriend, is graduating alongside him. Yashi could not help to notice the handsome and intelligent man in her class and purposely sat next to him. Of course, they became friends. It wouldn’t take long for Samuel to ask her out. We captured their session at the Japanese Bridge, the Rose Garden, and the stable of Cal Poly Pomona. They are celebrating their accomplishments and their future is bright!

Western University Graduation: Dental School: Rahul and Misha

May 20, 2023

Rahul and Misha have graduated from Western University of Health Sciences, College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Patel and Dr. Ganda! These two friends met in school and now celebrate together their accomplishments. While Misha comes from a family of dentists, Rahul is the first in his family to become a doctor. (But he proudly states that his sister is a physical therapist.) They both feel passionate about helping people.

For both Misha and Rahul, it was important to take pictures with their families. Misha’s parents and husband have been her biggest cheerleaders. “This journey has been possible because of blessings of my parents and unwavering support of my husband. This milestone achievement is as much as thiers as it is mine. So when I look back years later to these photos it will be a testament to the journey that my husband, my parents and I have gone through.”

For Rahul, his parents, wife and son had to share in this milestone. “My wife and my parents are part of my journey and this graduation is their achievement. They are more excited than me. I want these pictures as a memory and a thank you to my wife and my parents. Also to my lucky charm Krishav. This is a meaningful achievement for all of us in the family.”
