California Botanic Garden Wedding Photography: Juan and Marleen

They were middle school students who found no interest in each other whatsoever. Well… Juan did have an interest in copying her math homework. If I could go back in time, and whisper in their tween ears, point and say, “When you grow up, you two are getting married.” They would have laughed. But when love is destined, it gets serious.

Juan went from annoying to responsible and Marleen went from a cute, smart girl to a beautiful, intelligent woman. They would see each other in different eyes in high school. Juan was now the guy who was very giving, selfless, patient, easy going, and calmed down Marleen.

The moment Marlene finished her Under Grad, they celebrated in Vegas. On a gladiola, Juan asked Marleen to be his forever. Marleen earned her Masters with his love and support.

True love doesn’t need much to celebrate. As quietly as two middle school students exchange looks in a hallway, Juan and Marleen got married. A simple ceremony in a courthouse made them husband and wife.

Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden Engagement Photos: Ignacio loves Adela.

It was senior year in high school when they met. They had 1st and 2nd period together. Ignacio couldn’t help but to stare at the pretty girl with the beautiful green eyes. She, of course, thought the guy staring at her was weird. But then they talked and it turned out that Adela was easy to talk to and Ignacio was not weird, but funny.

Talking in hallways, and texting was the beginning of their high school love story, especially since Adela was not allowed to date. It would be between classes where Ignacio would muster up enough braveness to stutter out that he wanted to go out with her. A red faced, shocked Adela said, “Yes.” Their first kiss would also be in the hall ways. Ignacio hugged her tight, pulled her towards him, she pulled away and turned her usual shade of red. Ignacio stole the first kiss. And it was okay, because after all, she had stolen his heart.

Adela loves that Ignacio is protective, caring and funny. Ignacio loves how Adela is lovable, caring and responsible. She became the best mom to their son he could ever wish for. It might have been Ignacio who pushed for a kiss, but it was always Adela who pushed him to be better.

Fast forward to night at Javiers in Newport Beach. They were having dinner with another couple and Ignacio’s sister. They insisted that Adela order a desert. She did not want one. She finally ordered one for the table. When the waiter approached, Ignacio started talking. Once again, Adela was shocked, but this time he did not have to steal a kiss. Adela said, “Yes,” and kissed him!

Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden Wedding: Alex and Riley

“We were all heading for each other on a collision course, no matter what. Maybe some people are just meant to be in the same story.”

8 million people can surround you, but one heart beat is all that will hear when you fall in love.  Riley was alone in New York City. Her best friend had just gone home, her family was across the country, and her birthday was coming up. She sat alone in church, when the guy who had made her laugh, with his  lack of athletic abilities that matched her own, sat beside her. Riley had met Alex at a Friendsgiving. He had answered the door.  This and a game of flag football was the extent  of their friendship. When Alex learned that Riley’s 21st birthday was coming up and she had no one with who to celebrate,  he asked her out.  In his mind, it was not really a date. Not because he did not like Riley, but because he believed that there was simply no way that Riley would date him. He would later tell family and friends, “Look at her! Why would I have believed she would go out with me?”

Whether it was a date or not, they went out, and talked all night. They both called their parents. “Mom! I met a girl,” Alex’s mom recalled at her wedding toast. Riley’s mom could not believe the excitement over a boy her level headed child suddenly had.

Soon after their first date, Riley came home to California. Alex and Riley texted and Face-timed and for the first time Riley really had something to return to in New York besides a job.

The question of if their love story would continue, was answered at the airport. Alex and Riley were both avid readers. Riley’s favorite book was, I’ll Give You the Sun. In the book, oranges make people fall in love.  Besides, his hopes and his open arms, Alex also had an orange for Riley.

One day at a walk at Sunset, between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, Alex took out a fancy button down shirt out of a Ziploc bag and put it on, pulled out a heart shaped box and proposed. There, overlooking the water, Riley said, “Yes,” to only person whose heart she could hear in New York.
