Arjay stared at Ashley’s profile on Bumble. “She was incredibly beautiful. Honestly, it never crossed my mind that she would actually like me in person. But I gathered the courage to message her because I really wanted to get to know her. Even from the beginning, I knew it might be difficult because I felt like she probably wouldn’t pay attention to me.”
Ashley messaged back, and soon she was making plans to travel to Oxnard to meet him. That first visit would be memorable. Arjay’s aunts had prepared a delicious meal. Even though they had been messaging back and forth, Arjay could now say he was truly meeting Ashley, and he liked what he was seeing and hearing.
They drove to Oxnard Mandalay State Beach. They walked along the beach and talked about themselves. With every wave that rolled in, they became closer as they shared things about each other. One beach wasn’t enough; they drove down PCH and collected seashells at every stop. And it would be on one of these beaches that they would share their first kiss.
Arjay describes Ashley as beautiful, genuine, and caring. “She is beautiful not only because of her looks, but also because of her kind heart. She is caring because she always thinks of others and makes those around her feel loved and appreciated. She is genuine because she is honest, sincere, and always true to herself.”
Ashley describes Arjay as caring, strong, and handsome. “I never had to guess whether or not he actually loves me. He texts back fast and makes sure my texts are read. When we are together, he always takes care of me. He makes sure I always eat. When there’s food, he makes sure I am fed first.”
Even though they lived far away from each other, they stayed close, and it wasn’t just through modern forms of communication but also through love letters. Arjay had told Ashley that he appreciated letters more than material things. “In a letter, you can truly express what’s in your heart for someone.”
Arjay knew that he was so lucky to have met her. “I love Ashley because she accepted me for who I am. I never imagined that someone as beautiful as her would actually like me in person, so I feel incredibly lucky to have met her. She makes me happy, brings me comfort, and makes every day brighter just by being herself.” In his mind and to others, he called her “My Future Wife.” So at another dinner at his aunt’s house, he told Ashley he wanted to film a TikTok. But instead, he proposed. And Ashley said yes to the man she loved.
