Las Vegas had called them both. Jessie was there for a conference, and Tristan was there for a golf tournament. Tristan had just won big, but he was about to win even bigger in love. Jessie was sitting with her colleagues at the bar, unaware that the man she was about to meet would be the one she would allow into her heart.
Tristan remembers the moment as….“The first time I saw you, I fell in love with you. Your smile caught my attention from across the room, and as I walked closer, it felt like a fog was lifting, revealing the most beautiful sight I had ever seen.”
Tristan offered to buy Jessie a drink. She told him that he would have to buy a drink for everyone in her tribe. He did. And so they both gambled… with Tristan’s money and took a gamble with their hearts. They talked until 3:00 a.m. They learned they were both grieving. Within a week’s time, they had both lost people they loved. It was the start of being there for each other.
But being there for each other was not as easy. Jessie lived in California and Tristan in Colorado—phone calls, text messages, and finally a first date in Temecula. Jessie, who did her best to guard her heart, would soon see that Tristan was kind, generous, patient, and loving. “My love for Tristan took its time to come…I was guarded, extremely guarded and did not want to allow anyone in my space and much less with my family. However, his genuine and pure personality allowed him into my heart. My heart was broken because of losing my dad, we both had huge voids in our lives, and by the grace of God and our two angels in heaven, we met. “
Tristan was with a woman he felt had saved him in so many ways. Jessie was romantic, deeply rooted in love and emotional connection, heartfelt, sincere and genuine in expression, and devoted, showing unwavering commitment and affection. This was the woman he wanted as his wife.
“Every day I spend with you, I fall even more in love. You are the strongest woman I have ever met, with the biggest heart, and the way you love is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. You love with your heart, your soul, and your whole being—and it’s the most incredible gift I’ve ever been given. You are my best friend, my confidant, my ride-or-die. You are the best part of me, and my world is complete with you in it. The truth is simple—you are my world.“
So at Wilson Creek Winery, the same place where they had gone on their first date, Tristan asked Jessie to marry him. This was no longer a gamble or even a sure bet. This was certainty. Jessie said, “Yes.” to the man she loved.
