They were both explorers at Huntington Beach Search and Rescue. Maddie noticed right away his good looks and his confidence. She had no reason to pursue her attraction. She felt he was out of her league, he was 18 and she was an insecure 16 year old and to complicate things even more, dating between the explorers was not allowed.
A month after she turned 18, Andrew asked her out. He obviously had noticed the cute, petite fun loving girl who shared his sense of humor. To her parents’ chagrin, he picked up Maddie on his motorcycle and they took a ride down PCH, stopping at Inspiration Point in New Port Beach. Their night would end with their first kiss. There would never be a reason to kiss anyone else.
If there was ever a question that Andrew was serious about Maddie, it would be in the faith that they would share. He took Catechism Classes, was baptized and converted to the Catholic Faith. Maddie knew she had been blessed with a kind, respectful, hardworking caring man.
Andrew knew that Maddie was girl he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. So in Laguna Beach, at a park overlooking the valley, he knelt down and asked Maddie to be his forever. Maddie cried and of course said, “Yes,” to the man she loved.
