Sometimes you fall in love with your best friend. For Ryan and Elizabeth this wasn’t exactly the case. Ask them and they will jokingly tell you that before their relationship began, they weren’t friends. Years ago they’d met through church, but Ryan was living in California and Elizabeth in Ohio.
In 2012, Elizabeth moved to San Diego, and while the two lived closer to each other, things remained platonic. Then one Sunday after church, Ryan and Elizabeth were with mutual friends at Applebee’s and they both ordered the same meal. It would be the first of many times that they would smile at a simple thing they had in common. The texting and the communicating picked up from there and plans for their first official date was set. It would be on Halloween at Bates Nut Farm. They picked pumpkins, rode a hay ride and wound their way around a hay maze and into each others hearts.
Soon all Ryan could do was think about building a future together with her. She complimented his life and pushed him to grow. Ryan loved the way Elizabeth loved him- when he was at his best and when he was at his worst. He loved how she cared deeply about family and doing good to others. And of course… he loved how beautiful she was.
For Elizabeth, Ryan was the best part of her day. He made her heart incredibly happy. Her life was blessed beyond measure he was in it.
Fast forward to May 12th, 2017. Elizabeth was working at Ryan’s school as a long-term sub.Ryan told Elizabeth he’d heard from someone in the office that there was this great little park in downtown LA where there would be food trucks, something they’d both enjoy, and they should check it out.
Ryan took cupcakes for dessert because he actually knew there would be nothing there, only him with a ring and a question. Elizabeth said, “Yes!”
